Puerto Rican Grammy-award winning musician David Sánchez released his latest album, Carib, on Friday, 7 June 2019.
Carib is an 11-track album that highlights David’s talent as he explores his Afro- Caribbean lineage. He draws inspiration from West African percussion, Haitian music and music and instrumentation from his native Puerto Rico.
In an article published by Latin Jazz Network on Tuesday, 30 April 2019, David commented on Carib, stating: “I wanted to approach this album as a means to pay tribute to all Afro descendent communities who have helped define my music and the culture’s broad ranging beauty and idiosyncrasies.”
David’s instrumentation is pristine and velvety throughout songs like opener Morning Mist, Madriga and Fernando’s Theme, drawing the listener in with the sweet-sounding swoon of the saxophone. His Afro-Caribbean roots are prevalent in alluring slow-burners like Mirage and Canto, capturing the passion Sanchez strikes up through his instrumentation.
The album is available for purchase on Apple Music.
