Anderson .Paak’s Free Nationals teamed up with Mac Miller and Kali Uchis on Time, the first posthumous single from Mac Miller since his untimely death in 2018.
Time is a bittersweet release from Free Nationals, featuring a posthumous verse from Mac Miller, reportedly recorded in May 2018, that pays testament to his exceptional talent. Kali Uchis contributes her signature lilt, adding to the balmy feel of Free Nationals’ melodic instrumentation.
The collective managed to encapsulate the perfect mellow, but still funky, instrumental bass to suit the vocals of Kali Uchis and Mac Miller. Here, delicate chords add an airiness to a velvety horn section and distinctive percussive beat, allowing Kali’s singsong refrain to float smoothly alongside it. Mac Miller jumps onto the beat and reflects on a relationship that has grown sour, explaining that he needs some time to grow and recover. His raps are effortless, leaving a lasting impact on the listener.
The single is available for purchase on Apple Music.
