Semopa Entertainment re-released the single Tapera by the late iconic jazz musician Hugh Masekela, featuring the late Zimbabwean icon, Oliver Mutukudzi, on Friday, 5 April 2019.
The release of Tapera comes a day after what would have been Hugh Masekela’s eightieth birthday on Thursday, 4 April 2019. In commemoration of the anniversary, Semopa has re-released the song as a single, which commemorates both late artists.
Tapera is originally found on Hugh Masekela’s acclaimed 2016 jazz album No Borders. The single features both artists first playing their instruments, Hugh Masekela the trumpet and Oliver Mtukudzi the guitar, before they break into song singing in Shona, Sesotho and isiZulu.
The song is a question to God about why there are so many African children dying, and a plea to Him to bring healing and stop the deaths.
The single is available for purchase on iTunes.
