Listen to Madonna’s new single, I Rise

Pop icon Madonna has released the second single from her upcoming album Madame X, titled I Rise today, 3 May 2019.

The meaningful song alludes to the gun violence that is largely prevalent in America, more specifically in American schools. The song opens with snippets of a speech delivered by Emma González, a survivor of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting which took place in February 2018. I Rise hears a pop ballad melody, whilst Madonna’s lyrics motivate people to rise from their current situation and stand up for what they believe in – specifically, secure gun laws.

In an official statement from Madonna published today, 3 May 2019, the singer states, “I wrote I Rise as a way of giving a voice to all marginalized people who feel they don’t have the opportunity to speak their mind. This year is the 50th anniversary of Pride and I hope this song encourages all individuals to be who they are, to speak their minds and to love themselves.”

The single is available for purchase on iTunes.
