Loyiso Gola’s Unlearning announced as Netflix’s first African stand-up original

Loyiso Gola has announced that his highly successful live comedy show, Unlearning, will be airing as a Netflix special this March, making it the platform’s first African stand-up original.

Loyiso Gola’s comedy show, Unlearning, will be re-released on the global streaming platform, Netflix, as the first African stand-up original. The widely popular comedian’s show will be premiering on Tuesday, 23 March 2021, and will be available for international streaming for the global audience to see authentic South African comedy.

The comedian took to Twitter on Monday, 22 February 2021, to make the announcement, stating, “Happy and humbled to announce that my Netflix special, Unlearning, is coming out 23 March. It will be Netflix’s first African stand-up original. Oh, what a feeling!”

The live recording of Unlearning took place in December 2020 at the biggest museum of African contemporary art in the world, Zeitz Mocaa in Cape Town. According to Webtickets, the comedy show followed all COVID-19 protocols, and all guests will be seen wearing masks during the recorded special.
