M-Net has confirmed that it will be introducing The Bachelorette SA to the South African franchise, with pre-production having already commenced.
M-Net issued a statement on Sunday, 12 July 2020, announcing that The Bachelorette SA will be premiering in early 2021. The show, which will star a female lead, will follow the same format as the first two seasons of The Bachelor SA, and is confirmed to be in pre-production with the leading lady already being chosen. M-Net stated that the bachelorette will be announced within the week, and clarified that it had been open to choosing someone who was not part of the first two successful seasons of The Bachelor SA.
M-Net’s Head of Publicity, Lani Lombard, stated, “Choosing our first Bachelorette was a daunting task. Even though it’s not a hard-and-fast rule, it is customary for the spin-off programme to pick a lady from previous Bachelor seasons. In this regard, we’re spoilt for choice. Both seasons featured many stunning ladies who could easily step into this coveted role and we know how fans fervently rooted for their favourites on social media. Behind the scenes, we were also contacted by other potential bachelorettes with strong credentials but who did not appear on the show.”
