M-Net is set to honour the late veteran performer, Shaleen Surtie-Richards with a documentary on her life, titled Shaleen Surtie-Richards: I Am Who I Am.
M-Net took to Twitter on Tuesday, 8 June 2021, to confirm plans to continue honouring the late theatre, television and film actress, Shaleen Surtie-Richards. The legendary actress’ passing was announced on Monday, 7 June 2021, after having been found at a guest house in Cape Town. In light of the actress having spent the latter part of her life working on DStv-related productions, the platform has committed to honouring her by airing Shaleen Surtie-Richards: I Am Who I Am.
Director and executive producer of the documentary, Diana Lucas stated, “The documentary was commissioned to celebrate a South African icon and was in its final stages of post-production when the news of her passing was announced.” Adding, “It was an honour for the team to pay tribute and spend time with Shaleen in the making of this film. Her incredible story is historically significant for the people of South Africa.”
The premise is detailed as, “In this intimate documentary, we revisit Surtie-Richards’ life from her childhood in Upington and her first baby steps on the school stage to far grander stages and greater audiences.”
Shaleen Surtie-Richards: I Am Who I Am is set to air on Wednesday, 9 June 2021, at 19:30 on M-Net, DStv channel 101.
