The South African media personality announced his ambassadorship with clothing brand, Pierre Cardin, in a heartfelt message to his late grandfather, saying he owes his fashion sense to him.
South African media personality, Maps Maponyane, is known for his street style and edgy fashion sense. He recently took to Instagram on Tuesday, 8 October 2019, to announce that he is the official ambassador of Pierre Cardin South Africa.
In the image he shared, Maps can be seen wearing a pair of beige trousers, paired with a beige long-sleeved button-down shirt, completed with a Chinese collar. He accessorized the look with a pair of white sneakers and an orange hat. Maps shared a heartfelt message about idolizing his grandfather’s style and how his grandfather paved his love for fashion. He shared that his grandfather had a keen fashion sense and described it as, “Sophiatown dapper cool”.
“I was always looking forward to the day I could be big enough to wear his clothing and emulate his ease of township sophistication and flare”, he said, in part. Maps shared that his favorites clothing from his grandfather’s closet, which he later got to inherit, were from the brand.
Social media users flooded the post, with many congratulating Maps on the ambassadorship, while others complimented him and his late grandfather on their sense of style. One social media user wrote that they knew Maps’ grandfather and shared that he, indeed, had style. “I remember him. Swag style”, she wrote.

I grew up looking up to my grandfather's style, he was the slickest man I knew. He had that effortless Sophia Town dapper-cool that he oozed, never needing a Sunday to be clothed in his best. I use to always look forward to the day I could be big enough to wear his clothes, and could emulate his ease of township sophistication and flare. Many of my favourite clothes and shoes of his (the most special) were Pierre Cardin, and when he stopped wearing them, I would modify them in the way I liked and make them a part of my style.🕴🏾 . I did the same with my dad, who inherited my grandfather's taste, but with my brother and I around something always went missing, and if it was any of his Pierre Cardin, he knew it was one of us… For a while I've wondered what ever happened to the brand of the people that made high fashion accessible and still represented great taste and quality. I'm proud to have gone full circle, and officially be the ambassador of @pierrecardinza and help this legacy live on. 🙌🏾🙏🏾 #TheLegacyLivesOn 📸: @brandonbarnardphotography 🕴🏾: @wandalephoto
