Friends fans were shocked to hear how Matthew Perry slurred his speech during the premiere of Friends: The Reunion on Thursday, 27 May 2021.
Matthew Perry, who openly confessed to battling addiction issues throughout the Friends show, seemed to have slurred speech in parts of the reunion show.
This provoked comments from concerned fans. They assumed that this was due to Perry abusing substances again.
The actor, who played Chandler Bing from September 1994 to May 2004 in the most successful sitcoms of all time, Friends, admitted on the Friends: The Reunion episode how much he struggled with anxiety.
He stated that if the audience didn’t laugh, he felt like he was dying.
Perry turned up at the reunion after he had an emergency tooth procedure that day. The procedure impacted his wellbeing and also how he was feeling.
The dental surgery reportedly left Perry in pain. This explains his slurred speech in the reunion episode.
Kevin Bright, Friends executive producer, quickly reassured fans that Perry is in a good place overall. He stated that Perry seems stronger and excited about going forward.
