Ms Cosmo has taken to social media to share footage from the 88 music video shoot, alongside featured artists Kwesta, Solo and Kid X.
The popular hip-hop DJ shot the music video for her single 88 on Wednesday, 6 March 2019 at an undisclosed South African township. In the shared images, we are shown how the featured artists on the song, rappers Kwesta, Kid X and Solo, are styled for the music video.
We are also shown the aesthetic of the video, which is a local township, and has the featured artists dressed in pantsula-inspired fashion with colourful pants, printed shirts, converse shoes and bucket hats. Ms Cosmo is shot from a different, interior location filtered by a pink coloured light.
The video was shot by popular music video producer and director Ofentse Mwase of OM Films. The producer-director has experience with shooting hip-hop videos, having recently worked with one of the featured rappers Kid X for his Mtan’ Omuntu music video, alongside Shwi Nomthekhala and Makwa.
The artists all shared a boomerang video after wrapping up the shoot, with all four of them in front of green screen, thanking each other and OM Films for making the shoot a success.
The single is a fusion of kwaito and hip-hop sonic elements, and the rappers play on the theme that has been popularised in the past by songs like the 2018 hit song Ngud’, which is by one of the featured artists Kwesta.
The release date for the music video is yet to be announced.
