Mzwandile Ngubeni has been announced as the latest cast member to join 1Magic’s The River, marking his return to television after a five-year hiatus.
Mzwandile Ngubeni has joined the cast of 1Magic’s The River, taking on the character of Elvis Baloyi. In a statement from the channel today, 22 February 2021, 1Magic noted that the role would be Mzwandile’s return to the television industry, after taking a five-year hiatus to pursue entrepreneurship and focus on building his family.
The actor debuted on the season four premiere, which aired on Monday, 15 February 2021. He was introduced to the audience as the pilot who had chartered the helicopter that was shot down by Lindiwe, which ultimately led to Tumi’s death.
He stated, “The character I play is a pilot who possesses sick traits of toxic masculinity. Elvis is like that guy who was not admired by chicks in school and then grows up to be accomplished, yet yearns for what he couldn’t have back in school.” The actor expressed his excitement about returning to television, claiming that he needed to refresh his skills after taking such a lengthy break.
