NaakMusiQ has released his new single, Gabi Gabi, which is an unexpected sound for the musician as he references afro-soul and maskandi.
NaakMusiQ took to Instagram on Wednesday, 11 August 2021, to confirm the release of his new single, Gabi Gabi. The release of the single marks the second single released by the musician this year, following Ntokazi, featuring TNS and Bluelle. However, with this release, NaakMusiQ did not support the release with a social media activation as he did in the past.
Feedback on the single has been marked by surprise in the direction that NaakMusiQ took with this single. The raspy crooner is known for releasing afro-house singles which are melodic but focused on the arrangement and production. However, he has surprised his fans with a single that is focused on the lyrics and telling a story which references the tenets of maskandi, more so with the choice in synthesizing the strings and other live instrumentations.
The overall listening experience is of an afro-soul and maskandi-inspired sound with a contemporary take. Moreover, it marks one of very few clear releases which did not attempt to reference amapiano.
