Nadia Nakai, who was one of the featured guests on popular SABC 3 show, Expresso, detailed how she conceptualised the impromptu music video for her latest single, Imma Boss.
On Friday, 2 August 2019, rapper, Nadia Nakai was one of two featured musical guests on SABC 3’s popular lifestyle breakfast show, Expresso. During her sit-down interview with hosts Katlego Maboe and Leigh-Anne Williams, the rapper discussed how she conceptualised and shot the music video for her current single, Imma Boss, during her girls’ trip to Bali earlier in the year.
The rapper revealed that, initially, the trip was meant to be a girls-only trip, taken with the purpose of re-aligning themselves and for the rapper to rest before she releases her debut album, Nadia N*ked. However, following a few days on the trip, the More Drugs rapper suggested to her friends that she calls on the crew at Studio Space to come to Bali to shoot the visuals for Imma Boss.
In telling the story, Nadia Nakai first confessed, “So, I don’t know how to take a holiday, firstly.” Then she explained how after the idea to shoot the music video came about, the logistics were simple. The rapper states, “Studio Space has been shooting my music videos for the longest time… So, they are those type of people I can call and say, “Guys, I’m booking you flights to Bali, I need you to bring cameras,” and they did!”
She went on to explain that the footage was edited and compiled in Johannesburg and just like that, the visuals for Imma Boss were ready. The music video, which was released on Friday, 26 July 2019, is growing in its numbers. Since its premiere, the music video has amassed well over 80 000 views on YouTube.
