Nadia Nakai to perform at the Hip Hop Herstory concert this Saturday

Nadia Nakai is billed to perform at the Castle Lite Unlocks Hip Hop Herstory concert on Saturday, 8 September 2018.

Nadia Nakai is undoubtedly one of the biggest female hip hop acts in the country at present. On Tuesday, her official music video for ‘Naaa Meeaan’, which features Cassper Nyovest, reached one million views on YouTube.

Nakai has not had an easy path to success, however. She spoke about the challenges female rap artists face while breaking into the industry and gaining the recognition they deserve, in a radio interview earlier this year.

Now, Nakai has been billed to perform at the Castle Lite Unlocks Hip Hop Herstory concert happening this Saturday, 8 September at Gallagher Convention Centre.

The event is an immersive concert experience that highlights the role women have played in the evolution of Hip-Hop. It will take audiences on a musical evolution through forms of dance, DJing, exhibitions, visual storytelling and interactive elements of Hip-Hop. Other artists billed for the event include, Rouge, Moozlie, Gigi Lamayne, Roxanne Shante and Young M.A. A portion of ticket sales will go towards a mentorship programme aimed at supporting up and coming female Hip-Hop artists.

On Thursday, Nakai announced her booking for the concert over social media. She wrote, “Good Morning!!!!!!!! The Hip Hop Herstory is happening this Saturday!!!!!! Please go out and get your tickets now!!!!!!! It’s gonna be a jump‼️‼️‼️‼️ #hiphopherstory.” Later, she shared a series of photographs of herself in rehearsal for the concert. “Hip Hop Herstory rehearsals with an all-female band‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️ I’m so excited‼️‼️‼️,” she wrote.
