South African actress Natasha Thahane will star in Netflix’s African original series, Blood And Water, expected to launch globally in 190 countries in 2020.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, 26 June 2019, Netflix confirmed that Natasha Thahane will be one of the lead actors in the production, taking on the role of Wendy Dlamini. The character is described as an opinionated, smart-mouthed millennial who is kept at bay by the lead character Puleng Khumalo, played by Ama Qamata. The storyline will follow the exploits of an intelligent yet spontaneous 16-year old girl, Puleng, as she investigates the cold case of her abducted-at-birth older sister.
Thahane took to Instagram on Saturday, 29 June 2019, to excitedly share a casting image of herself along with the other cast members. She also shared a screenshot of the announcement which stated, “The starring cast for the new Netflix series Blood And Water has been revealed as the show starts production. Headliners include Natasha Thahane, Thabang Molaba, Dillon Windvogel, Ama Qamata and newcomer Khosi Ngema”. Thahane captioned the post by stating, “God has been faithful. Very excited to see what the future holds”.
The actress made her acting debut in 2014, with her appearance on the e.tv show, eKasi: Our Stories. Following a number of commercial cameos, Thahane went on to appear on popular South Africa drama series, Galz, Saints and Sinners, Skeem Saam, Ses’Top La and The Queen. Her role in Blood And Water serves as her first time working with Netflix and will double as her first internationally broadcasted appearance.
