International streaming service, Netflix, announced that its first African original production, Queen Sono, will be returning for season two.
On Tuesday, 28 April 2020, Netflix South Africa announced that the highly popular crime-drama, Queen Sono, will be returning for season two. The streaming platform shared a short clip of hundreds of requests from audience members requesting for the renewal of the season, indicating that the decision to have a second season was due to popular demand.
The first season of the highly anticipated series, Queen Sono premiered in February 2020, and has since received rave reviews from both local and international viewers. Lead actress, Pearl Thusi, made her return to social media on Tuesday, 28 April 2020, to share the news, notifying fans about the return of her iconic character. Fans of the show shared their excitement on social media, with many thanking the network for responding to their pleas. Fellow actress, Rami Chuene wrote, “Congratulations to you and the team. Well deserved. Queen Sono is amazing!”.
