Netflix SA has shared the first look of Happiness Ever After, providing the storylines of the three leads, Khanyi Mbau, Renate Stuurman and Nambitha Ben-Mazwi.
Netflix South Africa (SA) took to Twitter on Friday, 22 October 2021, to share the first look of the upcoming sequel to the 2016 local box office hit, Happiness Is A Four-Letter Word. Netflix is preparing for the release of the sequel, Happiness Ever After. Ahead of the release, the paid subscription video on-demand streaming service revealed that previous lead, Mmabatho Montsho, would not be returning. However, Nambitha Ben-Mazwi has joined the production as the third lead.
Ben-Mazwi’s casting was announced with that of fellow seasoned actors like Yonda Thomas and Xolile Tshabalala, who have joined the star-studded cast led by Khanyi Mbau and Renate Stuurman. The first look of the trailer showcased the premise of each of the emotional arcs that the lead characters will take. Firstly, the new film will be set in 2020, without the inclusion of the so-called new normal.
Moreover, it seems that Stuurman’s character will have to face her issues with commitment yet again, as the father of her child appears years after he abruptly left due to his addiction problem. Mbau’s character is set to fight for her husband’s estate following his death, while Ben-Mazwi’s character is seemingly going to be introduced to a love interest in the form of Thomas’ character. Happiness Ever After is scheduled to debut on Netflix on Wednesday, 10 November 2021.
