Nicki Minaj shocked fans when she announced that she was retiring from music, however, it was not long before the award-winning American rapper apologised for the since-deleted tweet.
Nicki Minaj sent shockwaves globally when she announced her retirement from music on 5 September 2019, however, the initial tweet and any screenshots of it are no longer publicly available. A few hours after the announcement, the Starships rapper clarified that the tweet was “abrupt” and “insensitive,” and that she did not mean it.
In subsequent interviews explaining her tweet, such as her interview on The Shade Room in October 2019, she explained that the tweet was her contemplating whether she had “enough music” in her to return to the studio and produce a complete album. She continued to state that she never had any intentions of completely leaving the music industry.
True to her word, the rapper has not stopped releasing music or featuring on other artists’ songs. Her most recent lead single, Yikes, was released in February 2020, and she recently featured on Doja Cat’s Say So remix.
