Ntsiki Mazwai suggested that Sho Madjozi does not have a hit single, in light of the rehashing of the conversation on colourism.
Ntsiki Mazwai took to Twitter on Wednesday, 28 July 2021, to question whether Sho Madjozi has a hit single. The question was the Twitter personality’s commentary regarding the ongoing conversation that is questioning if colourism played a role in the meteoric rise of Sho Madjozi, compared to that of Makhadzi. On Tuesday, 27 July 2021, Makhadzi trended due to the rehashing of her snub at the twenty-seventh edition of the South African Music Awards (SAMA).
As the conversation on Makhadzi’s snub was highlighted, a Twitter user posed the question, “Convinced Sh* M*djozi did so well in such a short space of time because she was light-skinned. This lady makes good music, works hard [and] is a star but we know why she’s so overlooked.”
Considering that this is not the first time that the matter of colourism and its influence in the entertainment industry has been brought up, Twitter users were quick to ridicule the commentator, suggesting that she was projecting. Moreover, the comments worked to affirm that Sho Madjozi earned her success on merit rather than just the colour of her skin.
Sho Madjozi has not been as active on Twitter as she used to be when she first started out. Therefore, it would make sense that she has not commented on the matter. However, simply looking at her actions, it would suggest that the star is aware of her privilege she holds in regard to her complexion. However, not only has she put in the work for her success, but she has also touted and celebrated Makhadzi.
Sho Madjozi and Makhadzi have a friendship that has extended outside of music. Moreover, it can be argued that Madjozi was part of the media personalities to show the face behind the Matorokisi when people did not know the face behind the song.
Therefore, for Mazwai to reduce Madjozi’s success to her complexion erases the musician’s efforts, more so considering that she has several recognised lead hit singles, such as Huku, Dumi Yi Phone and John Cena.

I love shomajozi but I don't think we can dismiss colorism….for one we know her but what is her famous song that was a genuine hit??
