Texas icons Robert Earl Keen and Lyle Lovett have been announced as the opening acts for George Strait’s show at the NRG Stadium on Sunday, 17 March 2019.

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo officials have announced that Texas singer-songwriters Robert Earl Keen and Lyle Lovett will open for country music icon George Strait on the final night of the 2019 Rodeo on Sunday, 17 March 2019. The organisers of the concert revealed, in a statement published on Tuesday, 18 September 2018, that the closing show will not include a rodeo component. The 2019 Rodeo will run for from Monday, 25 February 2019 until Sunday, 17 March 2019.

Strait, Lovett and Keen previously performed together as part of a Hurricane Harvey relief concert in San Antonio on Tuesday, 12 September 2017.

In an article published by the Houston Business Journal on Tuesday, 18 September 2018, Rodeo Houston President and CEO Joel Cowley commented:

“We are proud to close out the 2019 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo with three of the Lone Star State’s most influential music artists.”

Strait has won numerous accolades for his albums and singles, including a Grammy Award and was inducted into the Rodeo Houston Star Trail of Fame in 1996. In his honour, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo George Strait Scholarship was initiated and awarded for the first time in 2013.

Strait will put on a full-length evening concert at the NRG Stadium on Sunday, 17 March 2019. According to reports, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo will be the only performances for George Strait in 2019.

Tickets for the shows are still available for purchase on various online platforms.
