Pearl Thusi deemed overdramatic in tribute post to Noxolo Grootboom

Published on

Pearl Thusi was amongst the many South African celebrities who expressed their sadness at the retirement of veteran broadcaster, Noxolo Grootboom, and shared an emotional post dedicated to her.

Pearl Thusi took to Instagram on Tuesday, 30 March 2021, to pay tribute to retired SABC news anchor, Noxolo Grootboom. In her post, Pearl shared a series of images of herself on her knees, holding on to the legs of Noxolo in adoration.

She captioned the post, “When you meet a Queen, a hero… It takes nothing from you to drop to your knees to show respect. It comes naturally. You were so kind. It was Akhumzi’s funeral and even broke my ‘no pics at funerals’ rule because would this opportunity ever find me again? Yet your humility lifted me up and insisted I stand before you, and then you held me! Me?!? I couldn’t believe I got to see you in real life – yet I felt like I’d known you my whole life.”

Whilst the post attempted to show Pearl’s admiration for Noxolo, the public was not convinced of her reaction and claimed that she was being overdramatic. Minnie Dlamini Jones was also subjected to the public scrutiny for her tribute post to Noxolo, which led to many grouping her and Pearl together.

One user commented, “Celebrities are acting up, wow! Imagine, 90s babies saying they liked to watch the news!” Another comment stated, “This is just a publicity stunt… Anyways, congrats Pearl Thusi for grabbing our attention.”
