Pearl Thusi admitted defeat when her tweets were ignored by Minister Nathi Mthethwa, over the issue of the state’s assistance for the entertainment industry.
Pearl Thusi took to Twitter on Tuesday, 20 July 2021, to admit defeat at getting a response from Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa. The media personality had initially directed and tagged Mthethwa on a thread earlier that day, questioning proposed interventions for the entertainment industry. The thread was a continuation of calls for the state to intervene, considering how the return to stricter restrictions has affected artists and creatives.
In her thread, Thusi wrote, “Dear Minister Nathi Mthethwa, I say this in the sincerest way… Artists are struggling. Can you assist with actual support/money like how you tweet us congrats and condolences.” However, after getting no response from the minister or his department, Thusi returned to the platform to accept defeat.
In light of the lack of response, Thusi is now amongst the list of stars that have not been acknowledged by the minister on Twitter. In the past, Simphiwe Dana and Thandiswa Mazwai explored this channel of communication. While Dana initially received a response, in light of his responses trending when he did, it is no surprise that Mthethwa has stopped responding on the platform.
See the post below.
Clearly only if I die then the minister will acknowledge me at this stage. Anyway- had to try…
