Pearl Thusi has won over public consensus on Twitter, following her diplomatic thread explaining her since-deleted tweet on the lockdown having positive results and opportunities.
Pearl Thusi took to Twitter on Sunday, 27 June 2021, to address the backlash she received for a now-deleted tweet. The media personality pointed out that she has been posting less on the platform due to the continued backlash she receives for her tweets. This time, Thusi was trending because of a tweet she posted on Saturday, 26 June 2021. Thusi, in the since-deleted post, suggested that there are positive aspects to the lockdown, such as the ability to reflect.
However, considering her contentious relationship with Twitter, commentators lambasted her by suggesting that she was being tone deaf and speaking from a place of privilege. This is as the post was believed to be negating the economic difficulties of the working class. Addressing the matter in a thread, Thusi stated, “For those offended, or think I’m careless. What I mean is, for those who can, I hope they do find peace, enjoy spending time at home, working, spending time with family, meditating and find the good.”
Additionally, she highlighted that she has also lost family members during the pandemic, including, most recently, her cousin. Thusi added, “I’ve also experienced loss and pain during this pandemic. Do I share all of it? No. Does it mean I don’t relate? No. I didn’t come here for a fight or to be called names. I won’t be baited anymore. Cancel me. Make me fall. It’s all the same to me.”

With how people always choose to see the worst in me – it’s a miracle I’ve survived all the emotional turbulence I’ve experienced outside of it as well.
I’ve deleted the tweet because I’m really in a good place and I don’t mean to upset people …
