Power Girl vs Black Adam

Power Girl vs Black Adam: when you take both of their abilities and weaknesses into account, it becomes clear that Black Adam would most likely win in a fight against Power Girl.

The complicated DC continuity can make it difficult to keep track of the abilities and histories of different characters from the universe and their interactions.

However, you can still predict the outcome of a fight between varying characters, like Power Girl versus Black Adam, by looking at the abilities and weaknesses of each character individually.

The changes in the DC continuity

Although most fans appreciate, or at least accept the changes that the publication of the Crisis on Infinite Earths limited series brought about when it was published in 1985, most of this work that this series did to essentially rewrite and streamline the history of the universe was undone again with the introduction of the Infinite Crisis narrative in 2005.

This is what arguably makes the DC continuity particularly difficult to follow.

For this reason, it is still widely debated online whether all of the DC heroes, villains, histories, and more should only take so-called, post-crisis lore into account or whether all elements of the DC continuity should be considered in order to grasp the full picture of the characters and their stories.

Power Girl vs Black Adam

This complicated DC continuity also makes it difficult when you are comparing characters that were heavily involved in the DC universe before and post-crisis, like Power Girl and Black Adam.

Black Adam remained a powerful force in the DC universe throughout all of its iterations, wielding his Shazam-like powers to defend his conquered kingdom, Kahndaq.

In Power Girl’s case, her entire history, including her Kryptonian origin story, her memories, life on Earth 2, and her membership in the Justice Society of America was wiped clean after Crisis on Infinite Earths.

However, this changes again when her memories are restored after the events of Infinite Crisis and she remembers her Kryptonian origins and life on Earth 2.

Since the histories of Black Adam and Power Girl are both so complicated, there has not been a real one-on-one stand-off between these two, except when Power Girl accidentally crosses into Kahndaq airspace during a fight.

However, Black Adam lets her go without incident in the The New 52 series and during World War III, where Power Girl helps to restrain Black Adam alongside other members of The Justice Society.

This makes it difficult to determine how Power Girl and Black Adam would match up in a one-on-one battle.

Fortunately, by comparing their predominant abilities and weaknesses, it becomes clear that Black Adam could use Power Girl’s weakness to magic against her.

Power Girl: Abilities and weaknesses

Even though the history is convoluted, Power Girl remains a Kryptonian. This means that she derives her power from Earth’s yellow sun and has many of the same powers as her relative, Superman. Some of the most notable of these powers include:

  • Stellar radiation absorption
  • Super strength (which is enhanced by her hand-to-hand combat training)
  • Flight
  • Enhanced senses
  • Heat Vision
  • Super Breath and Ice Breath
  • X-ray vision
  • Invincibility and many more

Although this makes Power Girl extremely powerful, she also shares the same weaknesses that many of the other Kryptonians do. This means that she is weak to the different types of Kryptonite, red sunlight, and most importantly, any form of pure magic.

Black Adam: Abilities and weaknesses

Black Adam, on the other hand, has powers that are similar to those of Shazam, and this makes him one of the most formidable and strongest opponents in the DC universe.

Origins vary on whether the sources of Black Adam’s powers come from the Greek gods like Shazam, or from the Egyptian gods, but regardless of their origins, the powers remain more or less the same and include the following:

  • Superhuman physical characteristics
  • Electricity manipulation
  • Immortality
  • Flight
  • Magic
  • Regeneration and more

Since Black Adam’s abilities are magical, unfortunately, his powers are also determined by how much magic he has and he can be magically turned back into a non-super human when he shouts “Shazam”, which is how many enemies have defeated him in the past.

What would happen if Power Girl and Black Adam fought one-on-one?

Although you can never be certain how a one-on-one fight between two characters would ultimately end, most fans agree that Power Girl’s weakness to magic, which is what Black Adam’s power is based on, means that he will be able to overpower her in the same way that he almost overpowered Superman in Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam.

However, with Power Girl’s incredible hand-to-hand combat and intelligence, she is likely to put up a great fight.
