Prince Kaybee took to Twitter to clear his name after it was alleged that he had stolen a song from an aspiring producer who collaborated with Rethabile.
Prince Kaybee landed in hot water when he shared a snippet of his upcoming collaborative single with Rethabile on Saturday, 25 July 2020. Prince Kaybee had come up with the beat and Rethabile was credited for the lyrical content. As the teaser video started circulating on Twitter, an emerging producer, DJ Trumpet, claimed that the original version of the song was titled Isivunguvungu.
When alerted about the tweet, Prince Kaybee responded to the producer on Sunday, 26 July 2020. He apologised to DJ Trumpet, stating that he would seek clarity on the matter from Rethabile’s mother and manager, Winnie Khumalo.
In screenshots shared, Winnie Khumalo confirmed that she and Rethabile had worked with DJ Trumpet in the past. However, he was fired because of “disrespect.” Given that the lyrics were written by Rethabile, she saw no fault in using them on Prince Kaybee’s beat.
