Queen Sono premiere hosts some of South Africa’s A-list celebrities

Netflix’s first original African series, Queen Sono, hosted its premiere at the Joburg Theatre on Thursday, 27 February 2020, where JustNje had access to all attendees on the red carpet.

The night was filled with glitz and glam as the cast of Queen Sono, along with an array of A-list celebrities, arrived on the red carpet for the premiere night which took place at the Joburg Theatre, Johannesburg. Lead actress, Pearl Thusi, arrived in a long, silver, sequined ensemble and later changed into a short, emerald, printed dress for the press conference.

Other cast members, such as Kate Liquorish, Vuyo Dabula and Chi Mhende, shared their excitement for the series, with all of them describing it as a monumental and iconic feat. Speaking exclusively to JustNje, Chi Mhende expressed her pride at being a Zimbabwean woman who was given the opportunity to join a cast of its calibre. Kate Liquorish and Vuyo Dabula shared some of the challenges they faced in executing their roles, with both explaining that the fighting sequences were the most difficult to learn.

Musician, Sho Madjozi, who performed on the night, also shared her excitement for being on the series’ soundtrack. She stated, “This is huge. It’s the first original African Netflix series and the level of production is on an international level. I feel as though there shouldn’t be a difference anymore, we’re part of the global stage and this proves that.”

Other guests in attendance included Nadia Nakai, Natasha Thahane, DJ Zinhle, Cassper Nyovest, Nasty C, Thando Thabethe, Moozlie and Basetsana Kumalo.
