Ramelo has released her new single, Heyi Wena, which serves as her debut song since appearing on the 2019 season of The Voice South Africa, where she placed in the top 12.
Ramelo released her new single, Heyi Wena, on Friday, 26 February 2021, on Apple Music. The 34-year-old singer has shared her first offering since appearing on The Voice SA in 2019, where she was recognised for her powerful and soulful voice. In a statement on Sunday, 28 February 2021, the singer claimed that the single was inspired by the harsh realities she endured during the tumultuous year that was 2020.
She stated, “The song is also about my personal journey of finally coming to a place of complete gratitude for every obstacle that has been placed before me and, through God’s grace, moving forward anyway. I tried releasing before, but things just didn’t fall into place then the way they have now, it feels like I’ve been preparing for this very moment all these years.”
Ramelo added that Heyi Wena was also a way of her expressing her frustration with regards to the treatment of musicians during the coronavirus pandemic, and how they were supposedly not taken into consideration. She also claimed that the fight against gender-based violence appears to be futile, which is why she released the single to raise awareness on these pertinent issues.
The single is available for purchase on Apple Music.
