Casper Nyovest receives social media backlash after wishing he were Nigerian

Cassper Nyovest has begun the promotional campaign for this year’s edition of his annual Fill Up stadium concerts, with a video that trended at number one on social media.

South African hip-hop artist, Cassper Nyovest, on Wednesday, 21 August 2019, officially began the promotional campaign for this year’s Fill Up stadium concert. Cassper Nyovest shared a comical video featuring his friend Carpo, pestering him to reveal when and where the concert would be taking place. In the video, Carpo humorously explains that they need to make arrangements for accommodation and the “entertainment” they will need to bring along.

Since sharing the video on social media, it has received over 2 000 retweets, with close to 9 000 likes on Twitter, and over 120 000 views on his Instagram page. The artist has received many comments on the post on both social media accounts.  Many of the initial posts reiterated Carpo’s words by demanding a date. A follower on Instagram wrote, “We want the date!” On Twitter, one follower wrote, “Release the date and you shall be free!”

Moreover, fans supported Carpo’s sentiments, stating that he spoke for Cassper Nyovest’s entire fan base. A supportive follower wrote, “Carpo is officially the spokesperson of #TeamNyovest, that’s leadership, we want to book!” Another agreeable fan stated, “… Carpo is how we all feel but we’re trying so bad to keep cool and calm. On WhatsApp, Messenger, all over [we want the date] Refiloe!”

However, there were some social media users who used the chance to propagate for the concert to happen in their city. A fan adamantly stated, “Bloem is fighting for #FillUp2019.” Another fan suggested a different province, claiming to speak for the entire population, writing, “Cassper Nyovest, seems like the whole of Free State will hunt you down if #FillUp2019 is not going there… [They want it] strong.”
