The episode saw the young woman emotionally detail how she tried to apply for an ID so that she could work legitimately in South Africa, only to find out that it cannot be done without a birth certificate – which can only be retrieved by her mother. The woman also shared that she discovered that her mother had helped her step father’s son get an ID, which left her confused as to why she would not help her. When asked, the mother sat unfazed, stating that she didn’t realise it would be blown out of proportion.

Viewers condemned the mother on social media, with many blaming her for stifling her child’s future. Joy Zelda stated, “I really hope this girl gets help with getting an ID, because her future is dead whilst this man that used her mother is living life lavishly.” Tsigwili also commented with, “Can’t these people be charged with identity theft? They have ruined her future.”

Rea Tsotella is a confrontational conflict resolution reality talk show which focuses on family, romantic and business relationships. Host, Bishop I Makamu, serves as the mediator and helps all parties come to a constructive conclusion.

Rea Tsotella airs on Saturdays at 19:30 on Moja Love, DStv channel 157.
