Rethabile and Winnie Khumalo have issued a public apology to Prince Kaybee, this after DJ Trumpet accused him of stealing the song that he collaborated with Rethabile on.
Rethabile and Winnie Khumalo apologised to Prince Kaybee through a video shared on social media on Monday, 27 July 2020. The video was in response to the accusations by DJ Trumpet, in which he claimed that Prince Kaybee had stolen his song with Rethabile, Isivunguvungu. In the video, the mother-daughter duo reaffirmed Prince Kaybee’s innocence.
They further clarified that they had a 50/50 agreement with DJ Trumpet, meaning that although he owns the beat, the vocals and lyrical content belongs to them. Winnie and Rethabile attributed the commotion to DJ Trumpet’s supposed lack of knowledge of the music industry.
DJ Trumpet later commented on the post, corroborating the story and extending his own apology to Prince Kaybee. Prince Kaybee later shared the post on his timeline for his “true” fans.
