Rexxie has released his new single, KPK (Remix), featuring Nigeria’s Mohbad and South Africa’s Sho Madjozi, which has spawned the Jima Dance Challenge.
Rexxie took to his Instagram Stories on Friday, 11 June 2021, to confirm the release of the KPK (Remix). The original single was released in December 2020, and was the collaborative efforts of Rexxie and fellow Nigerian musician, Mohbad. The single’s success led to the release of the music video, which was released in February 2021 and currently has over three million views on YouTube.
Almost two years after the release of the original single, Sho Madjozi’s contribution to the remix adds a sonic difference. Madjozi’s verse blends indigenous South African languages with the melody and tempo to revive the original single. In an effort to promote the single, Rexxie and his collaborators have initiated the Jima Dance Challenge, which is inspired by the hook of the single that now features adlibs by Sho Madjozi.
The single is an extension of Sho Madjozi’s continued efforts to collaborate with artists from other African countries. Madjozi reportedly plans to introduce African states that might not be familiar with her music to her ever-evolving sound, as a way of expanding her musical reach.
The single is available for purchase on Apple Music.
