Shimza, Thando Thabethe, DJ Fresh and Shekhinah are amongst the scores of entertainers who have come together to highlight the financial impact of the national lockdown through the #LightSAred campaign.
Shimza, Thando Thabethe, DJ Fresh, Shekhinah and DJ Maphorisa are just some of the names that have rallied behind the #LightSAred campaign, which gained traction on Thursday, 6 August 2020. The social media campaign was initiated on Wednesday, 5 August 2020, with media personalities posting red-filtered images, which could have been misconstrued as promotional images of their work.
However, as more artists took up the hashtag, the intention of the campaign became clear. The campaign seeks to put pressure on the government to lift the ban on social spaces and event venues, as many have been unable to earn an income in five months. Moreover, artists have also been unable to benefit from their primary source of income during this time.

Kubi! Kuyabheda! Kub'hlungu! Kulanjiwe! We dedicated our lives to bring joy, earn a living and to inspire people through music. Half a year with no income is detrimental to the industry and the families it feeds. We dont want favours, just a fighting chance. #LightSAred pic.twitter.com/bcX2jAnVdM
