Sho Madjozi performed her hit-single ‘Huku’ at the Global Citizen Festival in New York on Saturday, 29 September 2018.
Gqom artist Sho Madjozi represented the African continent at the Global Citizen Festival in New York over the weekend.
In a social media post sent out on 25 September 2018, Madjozi announced that she had been invited to perform at the concert event. Being the only African musician included on the concert bill added to her excitement at the invitation. “I am mind blown, I am so excited for this opportunity,” she said.
On Saturday, 29 September, Madjozi took to the stage set out in Central Park to perform to a crowd of 60,000 people. Her act followed that of one of the festival’s headliners, Janet Jackson. The ‘Huku’ hitmaker was introduced to the New York crowd by South African media personality Bonang Matheba.
Following her performance, Madjozi wrote, “Performed in New York City after Janet Jackson and before The Weeknd. In front of a crowd of 60,000 people. This is mad…”.
Sho Madjozi will perform at the Global Citizen Festival Mandela 100 concert happening in Johannesburg on 2 December 2018 at the FNB Stadium. She will be joined by the likes of Ed Sheeran, Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Pharrel Williams, Chris Martin, Usher, Cassper Nyovest and WizKid.
