Showmax has availed a new locally produced film, Umakoti Wethu, which features acclaimed South African actress, Fulu Mugovhani as the lead.
Showmax took to Twitter on Wednesday, 22 September 2021, to share a post detailing the expected new content for the month of September 2021. The post also served to confirm that as part of the Heritage Month-themed content, it has made the locally produced film, Umakoti Wethu available. The film’s debut on the platform also marks Nozipho Nkelemba’s directorial debut.
According to M-Net, “Umakoti Wethu is a story that explores the complex love triangle that unfolds when a young woman falls in love with the second wife her husband decides to take. Zanenhlanhla and Sizwe have been married for five years but when the cracks in their marriage seem to grow bigger and bigger, he attempts to put a plaster on them by taking a second wife.”
M-Net added, “Still in love with him yet feeling trapped in the marriage, Zanenhlanhla has no choice but to agree. However, what they don’t realise is that the second wife that’s about to come into their marriage has a secret: she’s lesbian. The wives secretly start to fall for each other, an act of taboo that could destroy their lives.”
Leading the cast is film actress, Fulu Mugovhani, who will be acting alongside Melusi Mbele, Kwanele Mthethwa, Duduzile Ngcobo, Pascaline Phale and Nimrod Nkosi. Umakoti Wethu is now available to view on Showmax.
