South African brand, AMEN, aims to promote local fashion with new collection

Published on

Designers, Bradley Muttitt and Abiah Mahlase, have launched their new collection, Ke Tshwere Ke Tlala, under their brand, AMEN, which seeks to encourage the public to support local designers amid the pandemic.

The Johannesburg-based designers behind the brand AMEN, Bradley Muttitt and Abiah Mahlase, joined JustNje for an interview on Monday, 29 June 2020, where they discussed the inspiration behind their new collection.

The pair explained that Ke Tshwere Ke Tlala was created after they saw a beggar holding up a sign on a street corner. Likening it to the decline of consumers in the local fashion industry, the pair expressed that South Africans have an abundance of talent to offer, and the collection hopes to highlight their plea for support.

Ke Tshwere Ke Tlala comprises a range of monochromatic pieces with added pops of colour to each look. The collection sees prints throughout, which incorporate written words inspired by the beggar’s placard.
