South African Hip-Hop Awards 2018: Kid X and ChianoSky’s ‘Aunty’ boasts two nominations

Taken off his latest album, ‘Thank Da King,’ Kid X’s ‘Aunty,’ which features ChianoSky, has been nominated twice at the 2018 South African Hip-Hop Awards.

Kid X has earned himself two nods from this year’s South African Hip-Hop Awards for his hit single, ‘Aunty,’ alongside ChianoSky. The single is taken off the rapper’s latest album, ‘Thank Da King,’ which was officially released on Friday, 21 September 2018. The single samples the late Tsakani  “TKMhinga’s hit single, ‘How Do You Feel,’ featuring Twistyle. The single has been nominated under the Best Collaboration category, as well as Song of The Year category.

The musicians modernised and reworked the song’s hook, making a few changes to the lyrics as well, and ultimately produced a noteworthy rendition of the iconic song.

Speaking on CliffCentral’s Urban Culture Drive on Tuesday, 6 November 2018, ChianoSky commented:

“It was nerve-wrecking, I can’t lie, but I just wanted to do it justice and put my own little spin on it. That happened pretty quickly. It was like one Friday, getting a call that they have a track and they want me on it. Then Saturday it was like ‘Okay, we need you to come in now.’ We were working with Makwa on the track, and then after we recorded Aunty, Makwa was playing around with the beats, it was probably like 3 o’clock in the morning, and then that was the birth of Paradise.”

ChianoSky recently released her brand new single, ‘Paradise,’ which features K.O.

Kid X notes that ‘Aunty’ is about being free and letting go of everything that is holding you back, adding that his sound is inspired by hip-hop, kwaito, maskandi and house music.
