Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 release date

Star Trek: Prodigy does not have an official season 2 release date yet, but this season is expected to start airing late in 2023.

Star Trek: Prodigy has been an incredibly successful addition to the Star Trek franchise, since it appeals to both newer and older fans of the franchise.

The show is already in production for its second season. But although the producers are hopeful that this season will debut late in 2023, no official release date has been announced.

About Star Trek: Prodigy

It is rare for a new show in a franchise as established as the Star Trek one, which now has over 800 iterations spread over more than five decades, to cater specifically to people who have never seen any of the other film or shows from the franchise before.

However, this is exactly what the creators had in mind with the new animated show in the franchise, Star Trek: Prodigy.

When Star Trek: Prodigy started, the characters themselves were completely unaware that they were on-board a Starfleet ship initially.

They also did they know anything about the United Federation of Planets or Star Trek. This has allowed many older and younger viewers to explore this universe for the first time and its rag-tag group of main characters.

Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 release date

Star Trek: Prodigy’s noob-friendly format ended up being incredibly popular with audiences and the series was officially renewed for a second season in November 2021.

The executive producers confirmed during a panel discussion that they hope and expect that the second season of the show will start airing in 2023, but that they did not even have the exact release date for the show yet.

A 2023 release date for Star Trek: Prodigy season two will come just months after the second part of the first season was released on Paramount Plus in December 2022.

This is quite shocking, as there was an almost year-long gap between the premiere of the first and second parts of this season previously.

Star Trek: Prodigy’s strange and inconsistent release schedule is mostly attributed to the fact that this show, like many others in the Star Trek franchise, requires extensive post-production design and animation work before the show can be brought to screens.

Since the first season of the show was so successful, the production team will most likely follow the same format in the second season.

This means that even though the production of season two of Star Trek: Prodigy is already underway, the first part of the season will likely only be released near the end of 2023.

This is similar to how the first season was back in 2021, and the second part of the season may only be ready for release in 2024.

The format of Star Trek: Prodigy season 2

The second season of Star Trek: Prodigy will have twenty episodes in total, just like the first season of the show.

However, neither Nickelodeon nor Paramount Plus have confirmed yet whether this season will also be split into two parts like the first season was or not.

It is also still undetermined whether some of the episodes will be split into two parts like in the first season.

Star Trek: Prodigy cast members that will return for season 2

Many of the details about the second season of the show are yet to be confirmed and this includes details about which cast members will be returning as voice actors.

However, most fans expect that the main cast, comprising Brett Gray as Dal R’El, Ella Purnell as Gwyndala, Jason Mantzoukas as Jankom Pog, Angus Imrie as Zero, Dee Bradley Baker as Murf, Jimmi Simpson as Drednok, John Noble as the Diviner, and Kate Mulgrew as Kathryn Janeway, will reprise their roles.

What to expect from the second season of the show

At the end of the first season of Star Trek: Prodigy, Captain Janeway’s hologram sacrificed herself to save the rest of the crew. Later on, the crew was granted the rank of warrant officers for their valiant efforts to try and save the other Starfleet ships.

These new titles will likely come in handy in the second season of the show, as the crew will now be able to travel to an alternate future timeline with their new captain to save Captain Chakotay.

Admiral Janeway teased that “something bigger” would be coming in the second season of the show, but fans will have to wait and see if this will be a bigger and better Starfleet ship.

This season will also likely see Gwyn continue her mission to prevent a civil war between the Vau N’akat and Starfleet.
