Stella McCartney collaborates with Adidas on a line of faux leather Stan Smiths

McCartney is well-known for her previous designs of animal-friendly items and has now revealed her latest collaboration with Adidas on a line of faux leather Stan Smiths.

World-renowned fashion designer Stella McCartney has revealed her latest design of faux leather Adidas Stan Smiths. McCartney said that it wasn’t until she received a custom pair of Stan Smiths that the idea for her latest trainers was sparked.

“Many years ago, I was given a special pair of vegetarian leather Stan Smiths by my husband and Adidas,” she said. “It occurred to me that you really couldn’t tell the difference between the real leather and the faux leather pair. I could not help but think of how many animals’ lives could be saved if Stan Smith and Adidas would change from real leather to vegetarian leather, and use non-animal-based glues.”

The lifelong vegetarian has previously designed a variety of faux leather, knit and recycled plastic shoes for her Adidas x Stella McCartney line. The line is in its 13th year and says that she suggested the faux leather Stan Smiths to Adidas and the idea was well-received.

“We’ve been collaborating with Adidas for many years, so I thought this would be a great way to reach a really wide audience and enable them to understand that you don’t have to have leather shoes or animal-based glues in order to have an incredible, iconic product,” McCartney commented.

The “Stella Stan Smiths” are nearly identical to the classic Adidas pair, but instead of a green-heel, they are colour-blocked with burgundy and navy with the Stella McCartney logo and will be available in stores as of 10 September 2018.
