The latest episode of Survivor SA saw Pretoria native, Meryl Szolkeiwicz, as the most recent cast away after an epic blindside at tribal council.

Last night’s episode of M-Net’s Survivor SA, which aired on Thursday, 11 July 2019, saw Meryl being the latest contestant to be voted out, following the string of blindsides that have taken place over the last few weeks. Known for her allegiance to fellow contestant and tribe member, Danté de Villiers, Meryl’s name was put on the chopping block after tribe members deemed her a threat due to her social game.

Speaking to JustNje on Friday, 12 July 2019, Meryl detailed the reasoning for her exit, stating, “I think it’s because I didn’t stop playing the game. As soon as merge happened I realised that I was not in a good placing or fitting. I was just trying to make as many social connections and I wasn’t particularly campaigning for votes or anything like that. If they had given me more time, I would have been able to sway some people’s opinions.”

She further commented on what she would have changed about her strategy, stating, “I think I would have gone to speak to Rob on my own. I would not have spoken to so many people, I was trying to just work through what happened at the previous night’s tribal council, trying to figure out how Nathan got voted out but what I could have done is gone up to Rob and tell him that I didn’t know what happened and play the damsel.”

Meryl will serve as the first member on the jury and feature on all tribal councils until the end of the season. Her vote, along with the other jury members, will determine the winner of season seven. When asked about what she will be looking for in the ultimate survivor, she stated, “The players that win my heart are the people who play consistently, make intelligent and strategic decisions and not necessarily someone who has fallen on the right side of the fence.”

Survivor SA airs on Thursdays at 19:00 on M-Net, DStv channel 101.
