Survivor SA will be returning for its eighth season in June 2021, following the delay caused by the global pandemic on the production of the show.
Survivor SA is set to premiere on M-Net on Thursday, 3 June 2021, and has been dubbed Immunity Island for its eighth season. In a statement on Monday, 21 December 2020, the channel revealed that production on the show has commenced, with the new season being shot entirely in The Wild Coast in the Eastern Cape.
Due to the restrictions on international travel amid the coronavirus pandemic, M-Net had postponed the filming of the eighth season, which was set to premiere in mid-2020. Despite having a local setting, the highly anticipated season will still test the contestants in the same format as the previous seasons, as they will be subjected to living off the land in the temperamental climate of the Eastern Cape.
Host, Nico Panagio, stated, “Twenty South Africans will battle it out in one of the most exotic locations on the planet – The Wild Coast. With its dangerous coastline, desolated beaches and lush jungles, this amazing South African location will play host to a drift of castaways who are rearing to bring unpredictable game play and thrilling blind sides to the world’s greatest game.”
