Thembisa Mdoda-Nxumalo has revealed that she is currently in hospital, fighting for her life in what is believed to be a COVID-19-related condition.
Thembisa Mdoda-Nxumalo took to Twitter on Wednesday, 4 August 2021, to state the reasons why watching the funeral of Shona Ferguson was emotional for her. Specifically, seeing the late television executive and leading actor’s two children and grandson delivering their last messages to Ferguson. For the first time, the reclusive and private star revealed that she is in hospital fighting for her life.
In the surprising confirmation thread, Mdoda-Nxumalo wrote, “My kid feeling my grief and comforting me, on the phone today, knowing very well that I’m also fighting for dear life on this hospital bed. What a heavy day.”
Soon after the thread, Mdoda-Nxumalo received multiple well wishes from her followers and fellow media personalities that were not aware of her current health status. While Mdoda-Nxumalo did not go into detail on the status of her health, in light of Ferguson’s passing being a result of COVID-19-related complications, and the Unmarried star drawing similarities between the two events, many believe that Mdoda-Nxumalo is also fighting to survive from the virus.
Mdoda-Nxumalo has not confirmed the fact yet. Moreover, considering how private the star is about her personal life, it comes as no surprise that she is not ready to share the details of her health issues. This is unlike some of her industry peers that used their battles with the virus to educate the public on prevention and curative measures to take.
The star is married to her second husband, whom she has a child with, and twins from a previous relationship. Therefore, much like Ferguson, the star has a lot to still live for and has affirmed that she will continue to fight until she is back on her feet. Moreover, in light of her revelation and the outpouring support, the Old Mutual’s Amazing Voice’s co-host explained that she will be taking a social media hiatus as she focuses on getting better.

At my most vulnerable. I actually don’t have the strength for anything else. Time to breakaway❤️. Stay safe everyone. Love your loved ones. Love them hard.
