The Republic: Thabang shoots Moses, leaving his mother and daughter in danger

Sunday night’s episode saw Thabang putting his mother and his daughter in danger, after shooting Moses in attempt to protect President Lufuno.

The latest episode of Mzansi Magic’s The Republic, which aired on Sunday, 21 July 2019, saw Thabang trying to protect President Lufuno, by taking care of her enemy, Moses. As he confronted him at gunpoint, Moses held a gun to Thabang’s wife, Bridget, appealing to him to stop the violence. As he let his guard down, Thabang shot him in the arm, making him unable to defend himself. Whilst the ordeal was going on, Thabang received a call from one of Moses’ gang members, who threatened to kill his mother and his daughter Dineo, if Moses ended up dead.

The gripping series has captured South African audiences, with many praising the storyline on social media. Ndumiso Nyasulu shared a tweet stating, “Highly in awe of the work on The Republic. Florence Masakona, your character is a breath of fresh air to the industry. I literally felt every moment of the mass action scene.”

The Republic is a South African television drama series which revolves around the fictional president of South Africa, Lufuno Mulaudzi, as she fights the corruption brought upon the country by her predecessor. The story follows 2009’s president-elect, Kgalema Motlanthe, as he ends his term in office. He is thereafter replaced by President Hendrik Zondo who leads his presidency riddled with corruption and looting of state funds. Zondo is then fired from government, and makes way for the party’s secretary general, Lufuno, who takes the reins as president.

The Republic airs on Sundays at 20:00 on Mzansi Magic, DStv channel 161.
