Thuli Phongolo confirms casting in The Wife series

Thuli Phongolo has confirmed that she is part of the upcoming Showmax original drama series, The Wife, based on the best-selling novel, Hlomu the Wife.

Thuli Phongolo took Twitter on Thursday, 21 October 2021, to confirm that she is part of The Wife cast that is set to bring Dude Busani-Dube’s best-selling novel, Hlomu the Wife, to life. Showmax is currently in the production stage of the series adaptation. Phongolo’s confirmation post came on the back of the revelation of who is set to play the lead character of Hlomu.

Mbalenhle Mavimbela is set to play the lead, which was confirmed on Tuesday, 19 October 2021. Moreover, the supporting statement also confirmed the male leads, stating, “Mqhele will be played by Bonko Khoza, who burst onto the acting scene as Jabz in the multi-award-winning film Necktie Youth and has since appeared in the likes of Professionals and the Emmy-nominated Roots. “

Adding, “The cast also includes Kwenzo Ngcobo (Imbewu); Sipho Ndlovu (Isibaya, The Queen); SAFTA winner Abdul Khoza (Isibaya, Kings of Joburg); Mondli Makhoba (Isithembiso, Generations, Imbewu) and SAFTA nominee Thulane Shange (Is’thunzi, Ifalakhe) as the Zulu brothers; TikTok star Linda Majola; and SAFTA nominees Bongani Gumede (Isibaya, Zone 14, Yizo Yizo), Dumisani Dlamini (Usindiso, Yizo Yizo), Siyabonga Shibe (Gazlam, Ashes to Ashes, Rockville) and Zikhona Sodlaka (Blood Psalms, DiepCity).”

However, the female supporting lead roles have not been announced yet. Therefore, the biggest anticipation now is to find out which character Phongolo will portray. Some believe that she might either be portraying Mandisa or Oleta. She also indicated that her fans must wait for the formal announcement first before she can confirm the news.
