The single is an upbeat, afro-house-inspired single. The multifaceted artist not only produced the song but also sings on the track.
The Amachankura collaborator has been promoting the single, along with the album, since July, when he revealed why he chose Umona as the lead single for the album. In a video released on Sunday, 28 July 2019, TNS relays how he had played a few songs during a party. He goes on to confess that out of the eight samples he played for the audience, the song that the crowd gravitated towards was Umona.
Since then, he has been teasing the release of the single, providing the first recorded sample of the single on Tuesday, 20 August 2019. TNS posted a video showing the screen of his mixing software on his desktop, with Mpumi’s vocal’s playing as the video’s soundtrack.
The album and single marks the artist’s first release after signing a partnership deal with Sony Music Entertainment. TNS joins a long list of other previously independent artists that have signed partnership deals with Sony Music Entertainment, including Stilo Magolide, Rouge and AKA, who recently joined the global music giant.
