On Wednesday, 9 October 2019, hip-hop artist, Tshego, released the visuals for his hit single, No Ties, featuring Limpopo music sensation, King Monada.
Tshego has been promoting the release of his lead single’s music video, No Ties, featuring King Monada, since Monday, 7 October 2019. The Hennessy hitmaker first shared the link to the music video, prompting his fans to prepare for the release. Afterwards, he kicked off a 24-hour countdown to the music video’s release and finally provided the visuals on Wednesday, 9 October 2019.
The music video was directed by acclaimed music video director, Nate Thomas, and has a clear narrative guiding the story, which is shot in two parts. The first part tells the story of both Tshego and King Monada and their love interests. In the music video, viewers see Tshego and his love interest spending time in bed together, bonding and dancing to his song. The second half sees the couple, along with King Monada and his love interest, go to the club and party.
The other layer to the video is the performative visuals that interpret the sound of the song, these include a woman wearing a kimono and holding a Japanese umbrella in an open field. There is a scene of Tshego catching a P-shaped balloon, in reference to his album’s title, Pink Panther.
The colour pink is the constant motif in the music video as it features in most scenes. From the pink desktop in Tshego’s room, to the pink mini-bus in his performance scenes and the neon pink and greens of the club scene.
