Twitter users decide who would win a Kabza and De Mthuda Verzuz

De Mthuda and Kabza De Small’s names were trending, in light of the Twitter debate on who would win a Verzuz between the two artists.

On Sunday, 18 July 2021, a Twitter user questioned which suitable producer-DJ would be able to conduct a Verzuz battle with amapiano pioneer, Kabza De Small. Locally, a Verzuz battle has not occurred since the 2020 initiative, which was fronted by producer and musician, Gemini Major. In 2020, during the height of the lockdown, Gemini Major had reached out to his friends in the hip-hop industry to conduct various Verzuz-style battles. These included A-listers like Okmalumkoolkat, Nasty C, Emtee and pH Raw X as some of the artists to take part.

However, when the country eased the initial hard lockdown regulations and musicians began to tour again, the Instagram-based episodes ended. However, there has never been an amapiano version of Verzuz. In light of Kabza De Small’s vast discography as a solo producer-DJ, and collectively as one half of Scorpion Kings, Twitter users initially believed that there is no one who can go hit-for-hit against him.

That was until it was suggested that De Mthuda would be the best option of a producer-DJ which could take De Small on hit-for-hit. However, it was made clear that De Mthuda would probably not win. However, he would put up the best battle against De Small, compared to his other contemporaries. This is as De Mthuda currently has some of the top amapiano singles out.

Included in the list are mainly unofficially released singles, such as Emlanjeni, featuring Sir Trill; Liyoshona by Kwiish, featuring MalumNator, De Mthuda and Njelic; Shesha, featuring Njelic; and the single which certified him as a hitmaker, John Wick, featuring Sir Trill and Da Muziqal Chef.

The two aforementioned artists have not shared their thoughts on the matter. However, both artists have promised that they are currently working on new music, which is expected for release in the coming months.
