Ultra Music festival is back in South Africa this weekend

Ultra Music Festival is back for a two-city tour starting in Cape Town on Friday, 1 March 2019 and Johannesburg on Saturday, 2 March 2019.

The popular annual outdoor electronic music festival was founded by Russell Faibisch and Alex Omes in Miami, Florida, and the name of the festival comes from Depeche Mode’s 1997 album, Ultra. Now in its 22nd year, the festival has gone on to host an event in almost every continent of the world, debuting in South Africa in February 2014.

Five years later, the festival is back in South Africa in two days’ time. The music extravaganza will kick off in in Cape Town at the Ostrich Ranch on Friday, 1 March 2019 before   wrapping up in Johannesburg on Saturday, 2 March 2019, at the Nasrec Expo Center.

The international headlining acts featured are The Chainsmokers, Above and Beyond and Martin Garrix, and the South African acts featured include popular DJs such as Black Coffee, Culoe De Song and DJ Da Capo.

Besides the main stage, the music festival will have one additional stage sponsored by Resistance Music.

Although the festival is an electronic music festival, the long list of South African DJs and the type of music they make shows the growing popularity of African and traditional beat-based house music around the world.
