Unathi Nkayi’s love for African prints evident in her clothing choices

Published on

Unathi Nkayi’s patriotism is carried through into her style, as she is often seen wearing African prints as her statement pieces or accessories.

Unathi Nkayi’s Instagram page references the multitude of outfits she has worn throughout the years which show off her proud heritage and nationality. The proudly South African media personality often chooses to support local designers, such as Asanda Madyibi and Maxhosa Ngxokolo, who are known for using African patterns and colours in their garments.

In a recent post on Tuesday, 28 July 2020, Unathi posed in a yellow cocktail dress, which she accessorised with beadwork worn as a choker, down her chest, and on her wrists. In an earlier visual, she sported a red pantsuit which was enhanced with tribal beading across her neck and torso.

ASANDA MADYIBI My day ONE. Asanda and I went to school together and have been friends since we were 13. We both did art. She focused on textiles (design of patterns and pattern making) and I ceramics. She eventually went on to design. She made my graduation dress. Umbhaco….I said I wanted to look like a Xhosa mermaid……She went on to become the HEAD DESIGNER at Sun Goddess and I followed her. When she said Unsta I think I’m ready to do it on my own……I said I’ll follow you. Today I asked her to make me a coat and when I saw it I said ‘Who YOU mad at Girl’ and she said ‘Bonanje Unsta I’m in such a great place so when you asked me for a coat I thought let me throw in a young cape also!’ Who is she? THE WOMAN SHE THINKS SHE IS. I love you Tshomam @asandamadyibi #SetLife HAIR @_unathintakana MAKEUP @melforddivashair
