South African hit-maker Anatii has returned with the release of the music video for his single Wena, which debuted on Thursday, 16 May 2019.
Wena’s music video is presented in the form of a short film, depicting the various faces of masculinity in South Africa’s current landscape. Through the music video, Anatii attempts to reinforce positive masculine images and role models.
The music video opens with a black screen, and the voice of iconic news anchor, Noxolo Grootboom, can be heard reading an extract from Charlotte Maxeke’s prose about the type of male and male-presenting role models society should look up to.
The Anatii and Lindo Langa co-directed music video then features a same-sex relationship, a single father, and variations of heterosexual couples, each with their own unique qualities. Although the song was written about Anatii finding the person he wants to marry, the music video expands on the concept, giving it universal appeal.
