Simmy - Ngiyesaba

KwaZulu-Natal-born singer, Simmy, released the music video for her single, Ngiyesaba, from her successful debut album, Tugela Fairy, on Wednesday, 7 August 2019.

The singer first teased the release of the music video with a promotional video on Friday, 12 July 2019, through her social media pages. Over two weeks later, the video has finally premiered on YouTube.

The music video was directed by acclaimed director, Nate Thomas, who used the message of the song and the album’s inspiration to create the narrative. The song speaks about the songstress’ fear of falling in love because sometimes being in love with someone means being hurt by that person.

The music video starts with the singer walking through an enchanted forest as she is dressed in modernised isiZulu traditional wear. The singer walks through the enchanted forest until she gets to a waterfall where she dances without inhabitations to her song.

The footage is intercut with two dance sequences. The first features a couple dancing together, and the second features a group of female dancers visually depicting the internal struggle of accepting love, while being afraid that your heart might be broken. Nate Thomas also uses a thorned rose as a continuous motif in the music video. In one sequence, Simmy’s hand is bleeding as the thorned rose cuts into her hand while she holds on tightly to it.

The music video has garnered over 8 000 views since it premiered on YouTube.
